This submission was written in response to a selection of abstract art.  I am including the link to the art so you can compare the two.  http://www.gockelfineart.com/pages/art/editions/secrets.htm

She sat in her darkened sanctuary in her relaxing space and tried to shut out the chaos that was taking over her mind. The phone call. One silly phone call. And all her doing was slowly being undone. The world seemed to shatter in shards of color around her. Prisms of color and muted light. Pieces of herself falling away. Holding herself tight to keep the pieces in place. But it didn't help. Would never help. Poison arrows of the mind breaking away at the most basic of who she was. Who she wanted to be. Sometimes they didn't quite match up. She sat back and watched the events unfold within her. Little pieces of her breaking down. Here alone in her space, her sanctuary. Her life falling down like a broken stained glass window. Watching herself as she curled in a ball, holding herself tight, watching the prisms of light and color fall away. It was then that she noticed that the visual effects were simply viewing the world through tear stained eyes. Slowly wiping the artificial lenses from her vision she looked about the room. The prism effect was gone but the room seemed ominous. Her safe place no longer felt safe. Outside had reached it's filth covered fingers in. The conflict of who she was in her safety and who she was out there. And little pieces falling away. Prisms of light and color falling around her. Unable to hold herself in. Hold herself together. And the pieces fell. And the tears did stain. And she lay there in herself. Holding herself. Rescuing herself. Preparing to face it all again.

Another piece written for the same challenge.  This time to this piece of art http://www.gockelfineart.com/pages/exclusive/fire_ice_x.html

Frantic. Isolated. Passionate. A multitude of thoughts and feelings circling her mind like a drain. She loves him. She thinks she loves him. His warmth. His compassion. His understanding. Fear. Isolated. Panic. A multitude of thoughts and feelings that circled her mind. He loves her. Well, he says he loves her. She thinks he loves her. But he wants more than she is capable to give. She can't love him as he deserves to be loved. She can't love fully, openly, with all her heart and mind. His passion is limitless. Hers does not exist. His love is open. Hers is guarded and closed. His caress is gentle. Her skin recoils from touch. He chooses to love her. She can't understand why. The passion is there. Is real. Is deep. But her heart and mind have disconnected. Where he sees love and contentment. She sees pain and fear. Where he sees peace and passion. She sees trauma and conflict. Frantic. Fear. Isolated. A multitude of thoughts and feelings circle her mind. She knows she must let him go to protect him from her. But she loves him. She thinks she loves him. He loves her. He says he loves her. Passion. Panic. Isolation. A multitude of thoughts and feelings circle her mind.
